Lasting Friendships

20 Apr

Today I just want to take a moment to brag on my friends – and one friend in particular that I met on a very fateful day in 8th grade: Cindy Austin. Our lockers were right next to each other, and I needed a science fair partner. She asked to borrow my brush and we fell in love. Cue late nights (including a pretty uneventful New Year’s Eve) of cutting out bubbles for a tri-fold board where we explained the effects of acid on magnesium. We bonded instantly and even placed in the science fair…

Although we went to different high schools, we still remained best friends. After four years we graduated and threw a stellar graduation party. Notice our UGA attire and sweet graduation cap plates.

We quickly decided that we would live together freshman year at UGA. We pledged the same sorority and continued to make friendships that would last a lifetime. Although Cindy and I don’t live together anymore or spend every waking moment together, she is a friend that I will cherish forever. I know that no matter what, when I see her, I will be reminded of a friendship that has lasted almost half as long as I have been alive. Pretty cool. She’s headed to be a baller at UNC, but you can follow her travels at her blog.

With college graduation right around the corner, I have realized that these kinds of friendships are such a blessing. College has been an incredible time of growth full of friendships that I could never have expected or hoped for. Tonight, my entire AOPi pledge class took the annual “Senior Pictures,” and Cindy and I documented our lasting friendship with this picture:

In fact, here’s a chance for me to get a little sappy (I’m graduating from the best four years of my life, I’m allowed to, ok?).

Here is the best group of friends I could ever ask for:

And one that could go down in the books as from the most entertaining photo shoot ever:

I’m so blessed for these girls. I can’t wait to see all of the incredible things that they go on to do and all that is in store for their lives.
